Rearranging a Tiny Room

Mostly every college Freshmen starts out living in a dorm room. Far from beautiful, the majority of them start out looking like this:

The average dorm room provides you with a bed, desk, dresser, chair, and wardrobe or closet per person. Cramming all this bulky (and often ugly) furniture into a dorm room is just the first obstacle of controlling the space in your dorm.

Even though it may only seem like there’s one option of where the furniture should go, getting creative with the layout of your dorm furniture can create space and make your room unique.

There are two main goals for helping you rearrange your room: privacy or social.

1. You’ll probably want more privacy if you don’t know or get along with your roommate. This is best done by separating the room in half, one roommate on each side. Another way to separate the space is to loft one bed and leave the other lower. That makes it easier to avoid disturbing one another’s sleep.

2. If you get along better with your roomie, you don’t have to worry as much about separating the room. This gives you way more freedom to move furniture in creative ways.

College Fashion has two great examples of dorm layouts that fit that criteria here

Either way, putting your beds up higher creates extra space and makes the room feel bigger.

Just remember, don’t be scared to move some furniture around, up, and down. Your tiny dorm will feel much larger and more personalized!
